This was an absolutely awesome read. I've thought a lot about the role narrative and story play for humans to understand the complex and chaotic systems we all live in, but honestly, this explained that relationship better than anything I've read so far. The older I get, the more fascinated I am with how hardwired the human brain is for story.

It also seems to be one of the main differentiators I see in the human vs AI debate regarding how we reason differently. If AI reasoning relies on data-driven statistical pattern recognition, and humans learn through embodied, contextual experience and interaction, then it seems that the main tool we have for synthesising those chaotic experiences is our thoughts, in which narrative and story are deeply woven.

Thanks for such a great piece. I'm going to have to think about this for a long time and save this as some amazing quotes from you and the people you cite throughout.

Wow… reading your work sometimes feels like I’ve fallen into an awesome college course that I shouldn’t have been allowed into… deep, fascinating, and compelling brother.
